This is a Persian Griffin. Symbolic Griffins have been depicted as far back as 3000 BC in parts of ancient Iraq and Egypt.
With the body, tail and back legs of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle the Griffin represents courage and boldness. It is drawn to powerful fierce monsters and denotes strength, courage and leadership.
